Jody graduated from the Camborne School of Mines in 2000 with a BEng in engineering geology and remained at the university for a further 5 years, extending his studies into a PhD concerning material deformation and geotechnical engineering. On completion of his thesis, Jody entered the construction industry where he worked as a site engineer and civil engineering designer both within the private sector and latterly for Cornwall Council.
It was during his time with Cornwall Council that Jody became involved in the play sector, initially dealing with operational inspections, ongoing maintenance and the management of service teams dealing with approximately 80 sites. Responding to a lack of specialist contractors locally, Jody expanded the play service within the council to provide maintenance services to other local authorities before branching out fully into the installation of new sites where he successfully won and completed a number of contracts worth up to £100,000.
Having worked both as a contractor dealing with new site installations and as a client managing the ongoing maintenance of existing sites, Jody is in a unique position to fully understand the needs of all parties when considering the provision and management of a play site through the full cycle of its life from design through to decommissioning.
Hobbies / Interests
Jody's main passion outside of work is music and he spends countless hours writing songs and playing on his much loved guitars. He also has a great affinity with the outdoors and nature and can often be found in his camper van in a quiet corner of Dartmoor or Exmoor (with a guitar in the back of course). When feeling extravagant, Jody likes to travel to old places around Europe to admire the art and architecture and sample fine local grape juices!
